This magnificent rare oversized (11’ 9” x 16’ 5”) exceptionally fine silk and wool on a silk weave foundation Persian Tabriz carpet was hand knotted, circa 1950.
It’s refined quality is complimented by a unique weaving style that makes use of the more intricately involved symmetrical Ghiordes knots, a time-honored regional weaving practice.
Situated in Northwestern Iran, Tabriz has an ancient history dating back to 1500 B.C. and has been long regarded as the center of carpet weaving in the world.
An oversized silk and wool carpet of this knot density takes a group of several people years to weave.
